Frequently asked questions
How much mulch do I need?
Volume (cu yd) = Area (sq ft) × Depth (inches) ÷ 324. A 2-inch layer on 100 sq ft = ~0.62 cu yd.
How deep should mulch be?
2–3 inches is ideal. Too thin doesn't suppress weeds; too thick (over 4 inches) can prevent water penetration and cause root rot.
How many bags cover a cubic yard?
A 2 cu ft bag covers roughly 1/13.5 of a cubic yard. You need ~13–14 bags per cubic yard.
